Chain of Custody

Compass Forest Products Ltd achieved environmental Chain of Custody certification for both PEFC and FSC in 2004, prior to which we subscribed to the Timber Trade Federation's Environmental Purchasing Policy. As long standing members of the Timber Trade Federation we are also compliant with their Environmental Due Diligence requirements.

Forest preservation

The vast majority of the timber we supply comes from the Northern European temperate softwood forests of Finland, Sweden and Norway. Forestry is a vital element of the economies of each of the three countries, and the forest products sector provides a livelihood for a significant part of their populations. As one of the major natural resources in Scandinavia, the preservation of the forest for future generations has long been a defining feature of the sawmilling industry. The Scandinavian countries where our sawmills are situated have for many years been at the forefront of environmental responsibility and to this day their forestry management practises are amongst the best in the world.

Our commitment to the environment

Compass Forest Products has developed an environmental purchasing policy, which commits the company to ensure that all our timber is purchased from legal sources. We are further committed not to source any timber species prohibited under Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). We have the highest confidence in the sawmills that produce our timber and in the forest sources from which the wood fibre is derived. The company fully supports the independent third party audited Chain of Custody certification of forestry, and recognises this as the best way of demonstrating good environmental management.
