Certification
Our principal sawmills in Finland, Sweden and Norway were amongst the first in their respective countries to achieve environmental accreditation under the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) Scheme, the largest such scheme in Europe. Timber certified under this scheme accounts for in excess of 90% of the goods distributed by Compass Forest Products. We also have sawmills in our portfolio accredited to supply FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified timber. The company took an active role in prompting our sawmills to apply for, and subsequently to achieve, environmental certification.
Since we gained certification for Compass Forest Products under both schemes, the environmental Chain of Custody is complete from forest source, through the sawmills as primary processors and ourselves as distributors, right up to the point of delivery. As virtually all of the timber we supply is Chain of Custody certified we are in a very strong position to assure our customers that the wood they buy comes with the highest environmental pedigree.
